Dry Pastel Paintings

About Dry Brush

The paintings presented on this site reflect a unique approach of working with pastels, namely working with brushes rather than directly with chalk. Hence the name of this site,  Dry Brush.

After years of experimentation, Eric realized that extraordinary effects could be achieved not just with pastels sharpened to fine points, but by using brushes dipped in the delicate dust that remains after pastel chalks have been scratched onto sandpaper.

This technique, layering soft dust over finely detailed pencil sketches, opens up a world of texture, nuance, and artistic depth that is central to his creative process. This technique allows Eric to achieve an extraordinary level of realism that often challenges the boundaries between painting and photography.

While the process demands immense concentration and patience, each piece reflects a deep connection between craft and vision, embodying the essence of Dry Brush: the subtle art of creating with the finest particles, one brushstroke at a time.
